Fallout 3 Cheat Codes

List of Console Commands for PC

Playing Fallout 4 Next? - I've got a Great page on Cheats (the most used) that will be handy when you want to experiment!

Activating Cheats for Fallout 3 is accomplished through the Console. You can access this by pressing the ~ key, next to 1 on your keyboard. You'll get a prompt to type in the lower left corner of the screen. Unfortunately, this type of cheat for Fallout 3 exists only through the console, and that's only available for the PC version of the game. XBOX 360 and PS3 owners are out of luck. Console gamers must rely on exploiting game dynamics to do crazy things like get infinite experience. With the console, you can cheat the system without any more work than typing. I find that cheats for the PS3 and 360 like repeatedly disarming mines are tedious -- they may work on PC, but you could just type in the cheat and be done with it.

The cheat console isn't really a cheat console. It's a debugging tool for the developers. It's in the game and you can access it. Unfortunately, the number of "cheats" is staggering. You can probably do most of the lunatic things you can imagine. There are many console commands you can enter, and a staggering amount to swim through to find what the average person would want to do with the game. I am making this for myself as a reference so I can remember the best cheats for the game, while leaving out all the developer-specific tools that are useless for the most part.

During the writing of my Fallout 3 Walkthrough I didn't use the cheat console at all. Now that I'm so far into the game, and my character has done everything, I feel it's cool to whip out some cheats for the fun of it.

I strongly recommend you make a real save of the game, not quick or auto, so that you don't lose progress in your game if you use the Cheats below, just in case.

List of 'Cheats' for Fallout 3

Type the following cheat codes as I've typed them, replacing symbols with appropriate numbers in some cases.

player.addperk ########
This cheat will allow your character to get any Perk in Fallout 3. You can get quest perks you missed by accident, or even do some neat things like add perks you aren't supposed to have. Men can use Black widow and action girl for example and benefit from the abilities. One perk many can miss is hemophiliac from the quest Blood Ties. So, if you want hemophiliac type player.addperk 00003131 Look to this page for all perk codes in fallout 3.

player.additem ######## X
The additem cheat does exactly what you'd want it to do. You can load any item from Fallout 3 into your inventory. This can be especially useful for rare items, like the T-51b power armor, that force you to repair the item at a vendor. It's kind of sad that the best armor in the game can't be repaired by the player, yet NPCs with inferior repair skills can do it. Over time, if you didn't get a travelling trader like crazy wolfgang, or a dream-crushed moira brown to repair your armor, the T-51b set will become worse than the tesla armor you can repair to full power. Of course, matters of convenience also come into play as this cheat will also allow you to load items like Stimpaks, Ultrajet (no more sugar bomb turnins), and even Bobby Pins, which is a godsend if you suck at the lockpicking game and find yourself reloading all the time. Also of interest are mesmetron power cells. If you blasted your way into Paradise Falls, you'll eventually run out of ammo for your mesmetron, but not with a little cheating. Again, look to this gamefaqs article for all the codes to the items in Fallout 3.

player.setlevel x
This is widely used as a method of "getting past level 20" without any DLC. So, player.setlevel 5 would set your character's level to 5, and you'd lose all hit points you'd gained along the way but keep all skills and perks. In essence, you lower your level to allow you to allocate skill points and take perks when you level up again. This won't let you gain massive amounts of hit points, unless you set your level to 1 and level up again with more endurance than you had before. The below cheat can be used in conjunction with this to get to skill level 100 in all skills, and possess all perks. Note that if you don't have the latest patch for Fallout 3, you're going to cheat yourself into a corner. In the original release, if you have skill points left to allocate you'll be stuck on the skill screen. I've tested this for the fun of it, and found that once you get to 100 in all skills it does indeed let you move on to the perk screen. If you cheat your character into having all perks, the perk screen won't even pop up when you gain a level.

rewardxp X
This does exactly what you might expect. Type it in, reward yourself a set amount of XP and watch the level bar move. The bar doesn't always move when you use the cheat, for some reason, but it does work. You've got to be careful using this or you might give yourself more than you'd intended. Look to your pip-boy to estimate how much xp you'd need to gain a level, if you only want one. If you're going for a crazy level of cheating, use player.setlevel 1, followed by rewardxp 50000. You'll gain all 20 levels this way. You can do it multiple times to make a character with all perks and skills. Using this from the beginning of the game, and loading some decent items for your character will let you tweak about with character builds. Keep in mind if you leveled straight to 20 and didn't use any other cheats, the game would be incredibly difficult as you'd have no items, no caps, etc. You might actually find that a fun challenge, toy with it at your enjoyment.

SetpcCanUsePowerArmor 1 or 0
This is great for players who don't want to bother with the quests at all, and would like to skip going all the way through the main quest to get to the citadel. There are mods to let you do this, but you can skip it with a simple console command like this. Type setpccanusepowerarmor 1 to enable you to use power armor. I wouldn't bother talking to Paladin Gunny with this cheat on, as you could crash the game.

tcai
This will turn off the combat AI of all enemies in the area. This is useful if you're stuck with no stimpaks and you can't get out of a fight alive. You could of course exploit this by making enemies just stand there, but I think that kind of cheating would definitely ruin the game.

tgm
Turns God mode on or off. You'll be completely invincible with this cheat. Fallout 3 is about survival, and this definitely takes that away from the game.

player.resethealth
Use this to bring your health to full with a single command. Useful if you're run into trouble and don't want to have to load a saved game and lose progress.

tmm 1
This Toggles all map markers in the game. You can skip actual exploring and just fast travel to anywhere in the world with this cheat. This is awesome for players who want to skip exploring and just roam the map checking out locations. If you use this, it makes the explorer perk you can take at level 20 completely useless.

I don't see the point of using cheats. It is pointless in my opinion
Admin:
Some people don't even play games without cheating, but many people who play honestly come to the point that they will use Cheats to play around and milk a little more enjoyment out of the game. Depends on the game, of course.

I beat Fallout 3 and the expansions on XBox 360, logging in over 350 hours of gameplay. I loved the game so much, I got it on PC, so I'm cheating my ***** off for the fun of it.

They only time I use tgm is when I get overloaded with weight (yes I pick up almost everything), then I FastTravel to Megaton and sell off everything to reduce my weight (even when I get over their buying limit). Then I FT back to the closest point to where I was and continue on my way

I don't think cheating is pointless..mostly it depends on the cheat and why you are using it. tgm for example: I played all the way through the whole game without tgm then I went back and went through again with tgm because the second time I wanted to focus more on checking out every nook and cranny without worrying about dieing or searching for ammo. I had my fun trying not to die and killing things and going through the quests...now I want to do more exploring than dieing.

I used tcai yesterday for the 1st time after more than 200h of game play: Got stuck with Charon in a fight, which we couldn't get out & where he would have died eventually. So used tcai this one time - as the previous save was too far behind (in time).

Otherwise I'd agree: Non-cheat is the way to go. Unless it makes games more realistic (= harder). But most cheats intend to achieve the opposite in the first place ;-)

I like the console commands for one thing and one thing only, convenience. I played this game through many times already. I just bought the DLC I didn't have back then and decided to play it all again! I just don't want to deal with the PITA of getting to the DLC starting point and decided this would be a great way to shave a butt-load of hours off that process (yep, I didn't save mah saves). Once I get there, I'll turn em off and enjoy the fun!
